IoT connectivity in Denmark
Updated
In Denmark, permanent roaming is governed by the EU roaming regulation, which generally allows it under wholesale agreements between operators. Of the 4 mobile operators we track there, 0 have switched off 2G and 4 3G, as of 26 October 2026. Sources are listed below each table.
Permanent roaming
EU/EEA rule. M2M falls within the EU Roaming Regulation, which leaves permanent roaming for M2M to commercial wholesale agreements that may include clauses against it; BEREC concluded in March 2025 that no further regulation was needed, and most member states permit it, Belgium being the main exception.

2G and 3G shutdowns by operator
| Operator | Network | Status | Date | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 (Hi3G) | 3G | Switched off | December 2025 | digst.dk, wirelesslogic.com Government page lists Hi3G 3G as closed by end-2025. Wireless Logic says 3 Denmark closed 3G in December 2025. Earlier, 3 refarmed part of its 2.1 GHz 3G spectrum city by city. 3 is not listed among Danish 2G operators. |
| Norlys (ex Telia Denmark) | 2G | No plan announced | none | norlys.dk, itwatch.dk Norlys bought Telia Denmark and co-owns the TN-Network (ex TT-Netværket) with Telenor. Norlys says the 2G phase-out date is not final and will be announced. In Nov 2024 it described an analysis phase with an ambition to close 2G before 2030. |
| Norlys (ex Telia Denmark) | 3G | Switched off | April 2023 | sdxcentral.com, digst.dk Telia Denmark (now Norlys) and Telenor switched off 3G on their shared network by April 2023; the article gives no exact Telia date. Government page confirms the TN-Network 3G is closed. |
| TDC NET (YouSee) | 2G | No plan announced | none | digst.dk, itwatch.dk TDC NET runs the network behind YouSee/Nuuday brands. Danish agency page says 2G operators may decide to close 2G at some point, no date set. In Nov 2024 TDC NET said closure will come eventually but no concrete plan. Wireless Logic mentions an aim of 2030 (not confirmed by operator). |
| TDC NET (YouSee) | 3G | Switched off | November 2023 | digst.dk, wirelesslogic.com Danish agency (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) lists TDC NET 3G as closed by end-2025 without a precise date. Wireless Logic says completion by Nov 2023, with 3G on 900 MHz switched off end of May 2023. Exact month comes from the vendor tracker only. |
| Telenor | 2G | No plan announced | none | digst.dk, itwatch.dk Runs 2G on the TN-Network shared with Norlys. In March 2024 Telenor said it expected to drop 2G before 2030, then clarified there was no formal plan (IT Watch, Nov 2024). Government page gives no date. |
| Telenor | 3G | Switched off | April 2023 | press.telenor.dk Telenor announced it finished switching off its nationwide 3G network in the week of 18 April 2023. Wireless Logic gives October 2023 instead; the operator press release is preferred. |
What it means for IoT devices in Denmark
- 2G still runs on some networks, but plan new devices on 4G-based technologies (LTE Cat-1bis, LTE-M or NB-IoT where available): 2G is being closed across the region.
- 3G is already gone on 4 networks: devices that fall back to 3G will lose service there.
- Private delivery works the same from Denmark: device data reaches your cloud over private links. See private delivery.
