2G and 3G status at One Hungary
| Network | Status | Date | Confidence | Sources and notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2G | No plan announced | none | low | korewireless.com, one.hu Former Vodafone Hungary, renamed One in January 2025. KORE lists 'No specific planning'; One's coverage page still describes its 2G/GPRS network. Wireless Logic mentions an end-2025 target that was not confirmed. |
| 3G | Switched off | 2023 | low | wirelesslogic.com, korewireless.com Former Vodafone Hungary. Both trackers mark 3G as shut down, but disagree on the date: Wireless Logic says 2023, KORE lists 2024-06-30. No operator source found. emnify gives 1 Nov 2024, a third date. |
Confidence is high when the operator or the regulator states the date, medium when several independent sources agree, low otherwise. We recheck every month.
What it means for IoT devices on One Hungary
- 2G keeps running for now. One Hungary has announced no closing date, so 2G fallback still helps devices that roam in Hungary, but new designs should not depend on it.
- 3G fallback no longer works on One Hungary. Devices built for 3G (UMTS) or that fall back to it lose service; 4G devices with 2G fallback are not affected by this closure.
- For new devices, choose 4G-based technologies: LTE Cat-1 bis, LTE-M or NB-IoT where the network offers them.
- Foreign SIMs in Hungary: permanent roaming is governed by the EU roaming regulation, which generally allows it under wholesale agreements between operators. Details on the Hungary page.
An M2M.global IoT SIM is not tied to a single network in a country, and its data can reach your cloud without the internet through private delivery.
