5G core (5GC)

The 5G core is the core network of 5G standalone, built from network functions that talk through service-based interfaces: the AMF for access and mobility, the SMF for sessions, the UPF for user data and the UDM for subscriber data, among others. It is specified in 3GPP TS 23.501 and TS 23.502.
In practice
For a device owner, the 5G core adds network slicing and finer session control, but private delivery works on the same principle as in 4G: the function that carries user data decides where traffic exits.
