LTE Cat-1bis is a variant of the LTE Category 1 device class that works with a single receive antenna, introduced by 3GPP in Release 13. It keeps the coverage and mobility of regular 4G networks with data rates around 10 Mbit/s downlink, with a simpler, cheaper modem.
In practice
Cat-1bis is a common replacement for 2G and 3G modules where LTE-M is not available, because it works on any 4G network.
