CoAP (Constrained Application Protocol)
Updated
CoAP is a web transfer protocol for constrained devices, similar to HTTP but running over UDP with compact binary headers. It is defined in RFC 7252 and is usually secured with DTLS.
In practice
CoAP suits NB-IoT and battery devices that send small messages and sleep between them, because it needs no permanent connection.
