LTE Cat-1
Updated
LTE Category 1 is a 4G device category with peak rates of 10 Mbit/s down and 5 Mbit/s up, defined in 3GPP Release 8. It uses ordinary LTE networks, so it works wherever 4G does, with cheaper and less power-hungry modules than smartphone modems.
In practice
Cat-1 is a frequent replacement for 2G and 3G modules in alarm panels, payment terminals and trackers that need more than LTE-M or must work where LTE-M is not deployed. Cat-1bis is its single-antenna version.
