LwM2M is a device management protocol of OMA SpecWorks, built on CoAP. It lets a server read sensor values, change settings and update firmware through a standard object model.
In practice
With LwM2M, firmware updates over the air or the reading of signal quality are standard objects, so one server can manage devices from different makers.
