Network slicing
Updated
Network slicing lets a 5G operator run several logical networks on the same infrastructure, each with its own characteristics, for example low latency or reserved capacity. A slice is identified by an S-NSSAI and is part of the 5G system architecture in 3GPP TS 23.501.
In practice
Slicing needs a 5G standalone network and an operator offer, plus agreements between operators in roaming. It does not replace a private APN, which separates traffic by destination rather than by performance.
