LTE-M and NB-IoT networks, by country and operator
Updated
As of 4 November 2026, we track 187 mobile operators in 60 countries: 114 run a live LTE-M network, in 49 countries, and 114 a live NB-IoT network, in 56 countries. 2 NB-IoT networks have been switched off, and 137 statuses are still unclear. Each row of the table below gives its sources.
Most large markets have both technologies, but not on every operator. NB-IoT has been switched off by AT&T in the United States (2025) and by NTT Docomo in Japan (2020), and China Telecom and China Unicom never offered LTE-M. Before choosing a module, check the operators of each country where your devices will be.
Key takeaways
- Both are 4G technologies for IoT, standardised by 3GPP in Release 13: LTE-M for devices that move, NB-IoT for static sensors that send little data.
- Two NB-IoT networks have closed: AT&T stopped selling NB-IoT in November 2024 and its page now offers it only outside the United States; NTT Docomo closed its service on 31 March 2020.
- Coverage depends on the operator, not only the country: in France, Orange runs LTE-M and, in 2020, had invested in NB-IoT only in Belgium and Luxembourg; in Canada, Bell sells LTE-M and offers NB-IoT only in other countries.
- Roaming needs its own agreements: an IoT SIM uses LTE-M or NB-IoT abroad only where its provider has a partner for that technology.
- The data is free to reuse: download the full table as CSV.
LTE-M or NB-IoT
| LTE-M (LTE Cat-M1) | NB-IoT | |
|---|---|---|
| Channel width | 1.4 MHz | 180 kHz |
| Devices on the move | Yes, with handover between cells | Limited |
| Voice | Possible (voice over LTE) | No |
| Best for | Trackers, wearables, meters that move or need moderate data | Static sensors sending a few bytes a day, deep indoors |
| Power saving | PSM and eDRX | PSM and eDRX |
Where neither is available, LTE Cat-1bis works on any 4G network.
Networks by country and operator
“Live” means a source confirms a commercial network; the year is the launch year when a source gives it. “Not offered” needs a source that says so. † marks a row whose only sources are IoT vendors’ coverage lists: treat it as likely, not confirmed. “Unclear” means no usable source was found.

How we built this table
- Survey date: 4 November 2026, for the 187 operators of our 2G and 3G shutdown table. Each row of the CSV file gives its sources and their type.
- Source preference: the operator’s own page or press release first; then GSMA material and the trade press; IoT vendors’ coverage lists only when nothing better exists, and always marked.
- Checks: every cited page was fetched again on 4 November 2026, and for each row that is not “unclear”, at least one source names the technology. A launch years ago is not taken as proof that a network still runs.
- Known gaps: 137 statuses are still unclear, mostly in Latin America, North Africa and parts of Asia. We check this table again every month.

Frequently asked questions
Which countries have LTE-M and NB-IoT?
Of the 60 countries we surveyed on 4 November 2026, 47 have at least one confirmed live LTE-M network and at least one confirmed live NB-IoT network. In China, all three operators run NB-IoT but China Telecom and China Unicom do not offer LTE-M. Each operator's status and sources are in the table on this page.
Is NB-IoT being switched off?
By some operators. AT&T stopped selling NB-IoT in November 2024 and its own page now says NB-IoT is available outside the United States only; NTT Docomo closed its NB-IoT service in Japan on 31 March 2020. We found no other confirmed switch-off among the 187 operators surveyed.
LTE-M or NB-IoT: which one should my device use?
LTE-M for devices that move, need moderate data rates or voice, such as trackers and wearables. NB-IoT for static sensors that send a few bytes a day from deep indoors, such as meters. Where a country has only one of the two, the module must support that one.
Does an IoT SIM use LTE-M or NB-IoT when roaming?
Only where the SIM's provider has a roaming agreement covering that technology with a local operator. Operators publish these lists separately: Deutsche Telekom, for example, lists its mobile IoT roaming partners for NB-IoT and LTE-M on a page of its own.
